The Economic Development Commission (EDC) has worked on Lakeland’s first Economic Development Strategic Plan for over a year. Recently, the first major document for this project was completed and placed online. The 2012 Economic Development Assessment examines local business climate, economic development efforts, business leadership, quality of life, business clusters, and infrastructure, to inform us about conditions, needs, and opinions, for use in developing the Plan.
We hope that you were part of the public meetings and surveys which helped us to create the Assessment. If not, more opportunities are coming. Please stay tuned for the next phase of the project, which is public visioning. EDC will be presenting suggested economic development visions, and associated goals to implement them, for public feedback.
If you are an existing or potential Lakeland resident or stakeholder, the upcoming new Plan should interest you. Please take the time review the assessment at this link, or by going to our website Planning Department pages (www.lakelandtn.gov).
There will be an announcement for the time and place of the public visioning meeting later in 2012, or early 2013. In the meantime, all EDC meetings are open, and you are encouraged to come. EDC usually meets the 4th Thursday of the month, if there is scheduled business.
