No Refuse Collection Monday, May 28, 2012, Memorial Day

Refuse Collection/recycling routes will not be picked up on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2012.  All routes will be delayed one day. For example, Mondays routes will be picked up Tuesday, Tuesday's routes will be picked up Wednesday, Wednesday's routes will be picked up Thursday, Thursday's routes Friday, and Friday's routes on Saturday.

City Hall will be closed Monday, May 28, 2012 for the Memorial Day Holiday.

Lakeland Senior Center schedules Computer Classes and Bingo!


"Tech Tuesdays" in June
SENIOR 55+ COMPUTER CLASSES

Computer classes for seniors 55+ in basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Office, internet and email will be held every Tuesday in the month of June.  Tech Tuesday classes will begin June 5th and will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeland Senior Center located at 4527 Canada Road.  Bring your own laptop computer.  Free wireless internet is available.  There is no cost for this activity.

BINGO FOR SENIORS 55+

All seniors are invited to come out on Thursdays for an exciting game of BINGO!  Relax, have a cup of coffee, enjoy yourself and socialize with friends and neighbors at the Lakeland Senior Center, 4527 Canada Road.  Be the first to get five across, down, or diagonally and you can win a small prize!  Bingo games will be held weekly on Thursdays from 9 a.m. -11 a.m. beginning on Thursday, June 7th.  The is not charge for tis activity.

I-289 Corridor Planning Meeting Scheduled Thursday, June 5, 2012 in Lakeland


An Open House on the planned land use along the I-269 Corridor (now Highway 385) is scheduled for Lakeland from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the International Harvester Clubhouse, 4523 Canada Road in Lakeland.  

I-269 will affect the north side of Lakeland, including two interchanges (Brunswick Road and Stewart Road).  All residents, and especially residents in this area, are encouraged to attend.

The Open House is sponsored by the Metropolitan Planning Organization.  Lakeland residents are encouraged to attend and comment.  Additional information is available at the MPO website or this flyer on the meetings.

Municipal School Election to be set August 2, 2012

The Lakeland Board of Commissioners are considering adopting an Ordinance for a referendum on creating a Lakeland Municipal School District on August 2, 2012.  Agenda is at Lakelandtn.gov or CityofLakeland.com.

The referendum on raising the local option sales tax to 2.75% (a 1/2 cent increase) is also set for August 2, 2012.

If adopted at the special meeting, the Public Hearing on the Ordinance will be Tuesday, May 22, with the second and final reading scheduled on May 29 or after.

The creation of a Municipal School District also requires that the City of Lakeland contribution 15% of our assessed taxable valuation (approximately $500,000) to the Lakeland Municipal School District.
