FOCUS GROUP ON RECREATIONAL NEEDS MEETING TUESDAY, MARCH 5-VOLUNTTER NOW

The City of Lakeland invites residents to volunteer for the Focus Group offering vital input for future recreational needs and facilities for Lakeland on Tuesday, March 5 from 6-8:30 p.m., Lakeland City Hall, 10001 Hwy. 70.

Participants will be seleced  for the Focus Group based on the following criteria:  1) recreational interests, e.g., t-ball/baseball, soccer, skateboarding, among other sports/interests; 2) subdivisions/area of residence; and 3) diversity among participants in an effort to ensure that the Focus Group best reflects the entire community.
Residents interested in volunteering for the Focus Group or for more information contact Thad Jablonski at 867-2717 or cityoflakeland@lakelandtn.org

The Focus Group will have 50 residents maximum.  Due to the limited number of participants, all interested Lakeland residents not selected for the Focus Group are encouraged to attend the meeting on March 5th.

The Focus Group will provide  input for the City Park Assessment and Strategic Planning Study that will include recommendations to the Park Board, Board of Commissioners and City staff in identifying recreational needs and future recreational facilities in Lakeland.

The program is a partnership with the Recreational Educational Services (RES), a division of the Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation and the City of Lakeland.

Census Workers in neighborhoods this week

Lakeland City representatives will be conducting follow up actions on the Lakeland Special Census this week and part of next week in an attempt to increase revenue for city services by approximately $60,000 per year.

City representatives will be wearing "high visibility yellow/green" safety vests with the City of Lakeland written on the vests.

THEY WILL NOT BE SELLING OR SOLICITING ANYTHING EXCEPT THE CENSUS FORMS.  PLEASE CALL CITY HALL (867-2717) IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS, INCLUDING CENSUS FORMS CONTRIBUTING TO LITTER.

City representatives will be delivering Special Census forms to homes that we show have not returned the Special Census Forms and will return the following day to pick up the Census Forms.

The City estimates that if the Special Census is complete, the City will receive about $60,000 per year more in increased revenue from the State of Tennessee.  These funds will be used for streets, recreation and similar projects.

If you have your Special Census Form, please complete it and return it today!  Fax it to 867-2063, mail it to City Hall, 10001 Highway 70, Lakeland, Tennessee 38002 or e-mail it to Action@Lakelandtn.org.

CENSUS 2013-ALL HOUSEHOLD NAMES REQUIRED

A high percentage of Special Census forms have been returned.

We appreciate this quick response.

One problem we have noted is that many responses list the name of only one person.  In some cases, we know there is more than one person in the household.  To be counted, EACH first and last name must be listed!

If you have already completed your Census form, I urge you to take either of the following actions:

• Call (867-2717) or e-mail City Hall and correct the form. We can look up your name and add the other names.

• Download a new Census Form 2013 from www.lakelandtn.gov (or call City Hall to have one faxed or e-mailed to you) and complete it with the names of all members of the household.

Again, we emphasize that ALL NAMES of persons in the household must be listed. Otherwise, the City loses approximately $110 for each person not named! This is a yearly payment, so this is $110 per person, per year!

We will appreciate your assistance in helping us obtain a true count of Lakeland residents!
