Lakeland residents are reminded that the deadline is 4:30 p.m., Monday, November 17 for submitting an application for a volunteer Board and Commission for terms starting January 1, 2009.
Boards/Commissions with openings include the Board of Appeals, Design Review Commission, Economic Development Commission and the Park and Recreation Board.
Last year we had over 30 applications for 8 openings, which obviously meant many applicants were not appointed. While we never know how many applications we will receive, that was unusually high and I encourage interested residents to apply if interested. I think the vast majority of residents who have served on a Board or Commission has enjoyed the experience and found it to be a rewarding time.
The Board of Commissioners reviewed the process and directed that the applications and process be streamlined to insure all applicants’ qualifications for specific positions is clear. Also, the Board of Commissioners provides two opportunities for applicants to speak to the Board of Commissioners their qualifications and interests.
Applications can be downloaded at http://www.lakelandtn.gov/, or contact Lakeland City Hall at 867-2717. Applications received after November 17 will be accepted and noted that they were received after November 17.
